We Bought The Boat. -Now We Have To Fix It.

The boat we got is great but very far from being cruise ready. So we need to get through a bunch of projects before we can even really venture out into the sea!

The 1st major project is having all of the standing rigging done on MerSea B & have someone take a look at the mast. The rigging hasn’t been done since this boat was made. -And we don’t want to have any incidents along any part of the Pacific Coast or anywhere else.

In addition to the standing rigging, we need most of the running rigging replaced too. Hopefully we can get replacements at Minney’s Yacht Surplus store. They have a TON of every part of every boat! -Well, almost. I can’t believe how amazing this place is! It’s in Costa Mesa: http://www.minneysyachtsurplus.com/

Take a look for yourself!

Here’s a few more photos showing stuff we need to repair or replace.

Other jobs include:

New batteries &/or battery system.

If we get a new battery system, we’ll need to get hard solar panels.

If we get hard solar panels, we’ll have to put an arch where the bimini is.

Changing out the anchor to a better one.

Getting a stern anchor.

Fixing the shower pump.

Getting a new mainsail.

Fixing the genoa stitching that’s come undone.

Fixing the hatch that’s cracked & is missing the latch that closes it.

Getting stuff for organizing the boat.

Eventually fixing the crazed windows.

Changing out the lights to LEDs.

And that’s just what I’m remembering off the top of my head.

So, we are very glad we didn’t buy a more expensive boat. There are always things to fix on just about every boat. -Add $20k - $40k on additional parts or stuff to repair or replace. Not to mention, taxes, slip fees, insurance, etc… Just something to keep in mind when looking for a boat.

Anyway, it’s also good, I think that we got a 38’. I’m finding certain things are a bit more expensive when going above 40’. -Mostly slip fees.

Hooray! We have a video this week! A little snippet of the process of getting MerSea B!
