Hacienda Del Sol Chapter 2!: July 21st - 29th, 2026

After going last year, I decided to book myself another stay at Hacienda Del Sol within 2 weeks of returning home. Yes, that’s how special it is. I was hoping Matt could come with me. But as most of you know, this year got a little crazy & we ended up buying a bigger boat. -Which I hadn’t anticipated that we would do since we had seen so many lemons. Yes, it made our finances a little snugger but I’m still so glad I went. And I think Matt is glad I went so that he didn’t have to hear me complaining or whining about wanting to go back there all year long! 😂 I’m sure I’ll talk about it all year this year but I’ll return when the timing is a little better. -Hopefully for both of us. Although, we need to also work in a fun motorcycle, car racing, go-karting, canyoneering or some adventurous trip for Matt to go off & enjoy in this coming year.

Anyway, back to Hacienda…

Flying into Liberia

‍ ‍When I got to Hacienda Del Sol, I didn’t know if it would live up to my memory of it or if I would be disappointed. Well, it was actually even better than the 1st visit & that was amazing!

‍ ‍I selected to stay in one of the Tierra Bungalows again. -A different one than last year but just as impressive.

Mi cuarto

Since I did arrive there at 9:30 AM, after taking a red eye flight, I was very stoked that my room was ready. Although 1st I ate the meal I had requested for my arrival. So delicious! And then I went to my room & slept!

I didn’t sleep all day though. I went to the pool & did join the Bliss Yoga class with Nadi in the afternoon.

And I’m pretty sure by the end of dinner time I felt like I had 6 new friends! Amy, Andrea, Jessica, Patrick, Shannon & Vanessa! You guys were such a fun group to be around!

One thing to note is that there are 12 bungalows that can house 2 people each. So at the most there will be 24 people at the resort. But this was the slow time of year & there were only 7 of us. Very special.

All over Hacienda Del Sol

So, there is somewhat of a different schedule every day. You can participate in everything or pick & choose what you do. There are also spa/healing treatments. These are most likely very different than what you’re used to at your local day spa. They can even be life-changing! And you can also book an off-site adventure. I surfed last year. However, this year I had a torn tendon in my arm so that wasn’t going to happen. But you can also choose from zip-lining, horse-back riding, going on a boat ride, riding an ATV…

And then there are usually a few low-key activities that come up during the week. You never know what they are going to be. -Which is fun!

Daily schedule

There is a shuttle 6 days a week from Hacienda to a beach. Almost a different beach every day. I think that the one day there isn’t a beach shuttle is when Vera takes those, who want to go, on a hike to the beach. And she can tell you anything you want to know about the area you are walking through.

Howler monkey sighting from my deck!

Okay, let’s get to the food. The menu is incredible! So many choices! Healthy choices! Tasty choices! The menu is pretty extensive. If you stay there a week you won’t be able to try everything. And there is something on the menu for everyone.

What most people do is put their orders for the next day on the menu sheet. But if you decide you want an extra dessert that you see someone else having after dinner, usually they can accommodate you!

You can also go to the kitchen & ask for a fresh juice during the day or smoothie. They have a bunch of different healthy shots that you can ask for throughout the day. No, not tequila -as Jazmin likes to joke when someone orders an electrolyte shot.

Yes, one thing to note, is that they don’t serve alcohol at Hacienda. -Which is totally fine for me since I don’t drink alcohol anymore. But even people that do don’t seem to miss it at all while they are there.

But yes, they do have coffee. 😄 I just drank one cup each morning while I was there. -Instead of the 1.5 to 2 cups I am used to at home. And right now I’m sticking with the 1 cup. I mean, it is Costa Rica. They do grow it there.

I really miss the food. And I do need to admit that I love & miss having food made for me. -Especially by the chefs in Hacienda’s kitchen!

Dinner with my new friends!

Clockwise around the table: Patrick, Jessica, Shannon, Vanessa, Andrea, Amy & Me.

‍ ‍So, now I am realizing that I do need to get back to Hacienda Del Sol just to take photos of everyone that works there. I mean, I don’t even have a photo of Andrea, who runs a ton of things from the office. She is my Hacienda buddy that I practice Spanish with -if I’m not brain-dead from a red-eye flight. Love you Andrea!

And then there are all of the yoga & exercise instructors, the healing treatment practitioners, the housekeeping, the gardeners & everyone who makes this place run so smoothly & creates a dream experience for anyone who stays here.

I guess as far as taking photo & video, it’s hard. I love engaging with people & being in the moment & I don’t want to spoil that by taking time out to shoot pictures or video footage. I’ll have to figure that one out.

If Matt & Zephyr weren’t waiting for me back in Santa Cruz, I probably would have found a way to stay. -Or bring the boat down there. -Which is in the back of my mind.

I hope that Matt & I can go there in the not too far future. The people that work there make it so magical & I really want them all to be there when I return. Or for anyone reading this to get to the opportunity to be touched deeply by the staff.

Everything else is icing on the cake! It’s pretty damn good icing though!
