Boats!
I’m over looking on YachtWorld.com. -If you know, you know. And if you know, that is a pretty big statement to be making. But I’m exhausted from looking at boats. We’ve been looking at boats consistently for about the past 3 years & it’s actually gotten old. It might not be so bad if we had millions of dollars to spend on one. -Although, then it might just be hard to choose because no boat comes with everything you want or need. So, right now I can see why people would want to design their own boat.
Below I’ve thrown in a bunch of photos, in no particular order -they’re all jumbled up, from just some of the boats we’ve looked at in the last 6 months. Most of the photos are ones we took of the flaws of the boat & not the selling points. But it does just become kind of a blur after a while & a little discouraging. So if you swoosh past the photos, don’t worry, we’re at that point too! 😂
Since we don’t have a million dollars to spend on a boat, & any boat we get, there’s the cost of upgrading & fixing the things on it. So, our budget had to get scaled back some. But let me tell you, there’s kind of slim pickings out there. Lots of sailboat owners selling their boats have seemed to neglect them quite a bit. Photos can be so deceiptful. Then you go to see the boat for yourself & see all of the things that photos weren’t taken of.
Anyway, we’ve seen a few nice boats that we’ve made offers on & have been beaten by someone quicker to make an offer. We’ve a couple of boats that were exceptional. I mean there’s this one boat I can’t stop thinking about. -That we can actually afford. But it’s heavy, slow, has in-mast furling & teak on the outside -which will apparently need constant upkeep. And even if it is stunning, our advisors & better sense -Matt, says that it’s not the boat for us.
Then there’s the boat that we are close to getting. -If everything looks good from the survey. It’s definitely an upgrade from what we have now. About 17 years newer. And I’m sure we’ll love it if we do get it. It just doesn’t have the WOW factor. You know what I mean? Ugh. It’s a privileged problem to have. But it’s hard. It’s a lot of money.
I’m not searching for sympathy from anyone for us but I’m hoping at least some of you can relate -in some capacity of your life. It’s hard to not want the sparkly thing but the dull & solid thing is probably going to last longer & cost less money in the long term. Actually, I wouldn’t call this sailboat we’re looking at dull & if it gets us to where we want to go, I’ll be very stoked!
So, unless you have limitless funds, it’s better to go with your head when buying a sailboat. Probably. Hopefully.
The one thing, about the boat that we’re close to buying, is that we’re going to have to figure out how to make it the kind of boat that will get to the South Pacific eventually. And we are lucky to know some people who might be able to help us with this.
In the meantime, we have a short & sweet video for you to watch. -Basically scrolling through all the photos above so you don’t have to.
Zephyr contemplating what kind of boat his parents are going to buy.
Thanks for reading & watching! We appreciate all of you & hoping you are having an amazing week!
